Feet and meters in building
A standard 8 ft ceiling is 2.44 m; metric homes usually build to 2.4 m (7′ 10 1/2″), and 2.7 m (8′ 10 5/16″) in newer construction. When ordering lumber from a metric supplier, lengths come in 0.3 m steps (2.4, 3.0, 3.6, 4.2, 4.8 m) — a 4.8 m board is 15′ 9″, about 3 inches shorter than a 16 footer.
Area isn't a straight conversion: square feet to square meters is 0.3048², about 0.0929. Use the square feet to square meters page for that.
